The National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, is an Italian national monument located in Rome's Piazza Venezia, the work of architect Giuseppe Sacconi. Its construction began in 1885 in 1911, the monument was inaugurated. From an architectural point of view, it was designed as a modern forum, an agora on three levels connected by stairways and surmounted by a portico characterized by a colonnade. The monument has broad symbolic significance, representing a secular temple metaphorically dedicated to free and united Italy, and celebrating sacrifice for the homeland and related ideals.
