a large cluster of stars in the sky

This is my final image of the Gamma Cygni nebula region for 2023. It consists of 41.100 seconds of combined exposure time taken over three months from Copenhagen, Denmark. Sadr, the bright star in this image is the center star of the asterism called The Northern Cross, part of the constellation: Cygnus.🌌 Gamma Cygni is an extremely volatile nebulous region right in the middle of our own Milky Way galaxy. The beautiful nebulosity in this photograph is approximately 3500 light years away. In other words, right now you’re looking at how something was 3500 years ago, photographed this fall.
