The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on the waterfront of Victoria Harbour at a district called Wanchai. The buildings surrounding it are commercial and office buildings. The HKCEC also holds political events like the elections of the Chief Executive and Legislative Council members. On the left is a pier and a heliport. Significant political people could reach and leave the centre by sea or air. Prince Charles reached the centre on 1 July 1997 for the handover ceremony (回歸) as Britain returned Hong Kong, which used to be a British colony, to China. This is a special political place.
