His Majesty conversing with cottagers King George V visiting French locals, during World War I. King George V and his retinue are just disappearing off the left of the image. The King looks relaxed and cheerful. This may even have been a good opportunity for rusty French and English language skills to have been re-honed. The locals in the photograph are either much older or younger, which is representative of the civilians left to work the land and ensure 'ordinary' life continued.digital.nls.uk/74548580
