A slow Alaskan summer sunset slowly graces Horseshoe Bay on Adak Island at 10:27 p.m. July 21, 2023. The remote island on the western end of the Alaskan Aleutian chain of islands was the home to Naval Air Facility Adak from 1942 to 1997. This cove on the northwestern corner was a favorite among the thousands of people who once staffed the facility. These days, less than 30 people still live in the ruins of the sprawling city built for over 6000.
