A photo capturing the remains of the Mesopotamian Marshlands. In the 1950's, the population of the Marsh Arabs succeeded around 500,000. Over 90% of the Southern Iraqi Marshlands were destroyed in the early 1990's because of Saddam's loyalist army attacks to punish the Marsh Arabs for participating in an uprising against his regime. Many people of this region fled towards Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and then migrating to the United States or returning back to Iraq after 2003 United States invasion.
