This is a series of texture shots from the Alvord Desert hot springs in remote Southeast Oregon. There is some wild geology/chemistry happening in this location. Water boils up from these hot springs and trickles onto the sun-baked surface of the nearby playa. The red comes from dissolved volcanic rocks. I love the seemingly chaotic nature of it all…until you start to take a closer look. Then you begin to see the rhythm and patterns of this extreme and remote landscape. This location is where water slowly begins to pool up on the desert floor.
