Buffalo at Yellowstone on Eastern Grand Loop Road The eastern portion of Yellowstone's National Park's Grand Loop Road runs from Mammoth Hot Springs to Yellowstone Lake. Driving east from Mammoth the road traverses through scenic meadows with splendid views of wildlife and distant mountains. After passing through Tower Junction, the road catches up with the Yellowstone River near Tower Falls and swings to the south traversing Dunraven Pass at an elevation of 8859 feet between Dunraven Peak and Mount Washburn. Dunraven Pass is the road's highest point.
