I’ve often turned to photography to express things that I cannot express in words. At the time of taking this photo, I was really struggling with my hair. It sounds stupid and superficial to say that but my hair has been a source of grief for me as it’s wrapped up in core identity: being biracial in a predominately white suburb and the struggle I’ve had with gender expression as someone agender. Sometimes small experiments, like growing out your hair, lead to big discoveries about who you really are.
