This native Spreading Wood Fern on the floor of the Quinault Rain Forest dies back in fall and leaves a colorful carpet behind. Historically First People would use a pounded pulp to heal cuts. Leaves were soaked and used to wash hair and some of the northern indigenous people would use this fern in cooking. Even the roots were useful. They have been consumed to treat parasites, such as tapeworm.
