Macro photo showing the veins in the eye of an Australian Death Adder. These snakes are not actually adders, but are in the elapid group of snakes which includes cobras, mambas, taipans, tiger snakes, etc. They do however occupy the same ecological niche and dry habitats as some of the smaller adder species in Africa and Asia, and small pit vipers in the Americas.
