Hatsumode

Hatsumode is the first shrine visit of the new year. Scores of worshippers go to temples at first light to pray for good fortune, burn amulets and incense. Meji Jingu is very popular amongst the Tokyo population. Here you see the winter sun casting a long shadow of the Torii gate at the western entry of Meji Jingu
