Yucca plants are native to hot desert climates but can be found in grasslands and even tropical regions Most bear fruit which is often found in southwestern cooking. The yucca moth pollinates them and they often have beautiful blooms when mature. Their leaves conserve water under a waxy coating and the older drooping leaves form a protective barrier around the trunk from sun exposure and arid atmosphere. The yucca flower is the state flower of New Mexico.
