We were on holiday in Sintra, Portugal. It was late September, the mist had rolled in over the mountains and our skin had begun to cool. Face to the breeze, I could hear the sound of distant Lisbon if I listened hard enough. As we walked through the old deserted town at sunset, flanked by thundering oak trees and crumbling stately homes painted in bold, beautiful colours, it was as though we were discovering this fairytale place for the first time. I took this photo as we trekked through the cobbled streets. It’s just 1 example of how the Portuguese use colour to bring their country to life.
