Our team was designing a desk for school kids in Papua New Guinea. 98% of the population lives rurally, with most elementary schools lacking desks, chairs or even electricity. We partnered with a local timber company to produce furniture kits from their offcuts, with a design that remote communities could build easily for themselves from local materials if we couldn’t send them kits to assemble. It’s the first time in my career that a project I’ve worked on will have a lasting, positive impact in a meaningful way, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
