This is one of my favorite places. It marks the center of Canyonlands National Park, where the three districts come together. I was just below the confluence of two of the West’s most powerful rivers, the Colorado and the Green, and situated just above the start of the rapids of Cataract Canyon. This spot is in the middle of nowhere, and at the same time, feels like the center of the Universe. Dark clouds were coming in around us but the sun opened up just above for a brief moment. A raven circled overhead. Just behind me were cougar tracks left behind on the beach. It was surreal.
