Without hesitation my favorite japanese concept is “mono no aware”, which we could translate for “the beauty of the ephemeral.” In a society in which we: refuse to “forget,” and want everything to last, it is hard to understand the meaning of this expression, to understand that something is beautiful, not because it always lasts, if not because of the opposite. As the flower of the cherry tree, a delicate and elegant flower, represents in its maximum the concept of “mono no aware”, it flowers in these dates and before we know it, it disappears. This can teach us a little life lesson.
