Thanks to modern technology, the approximately 300 marble quarries of the Apuan Alps area are inflicting on the mountains the most serious environmental disaster in Europe. This picture, apparently suggestive, actually hides a terrible secret: the mountain is slowly but inexorably cut into slices.
