This is the bottom of Lake Cachuma, in Santa Barbara County, California, in December of 2016, as the lake was nearly empty due to extreme lack of rain and drought conditions. Officials, at the time, featured the lake would be empty within two months unless there was rain. This is less than 3 miles from Circle V Ranch, where in July of 2017, over 50 summer campers were forced to shelter in place due to the raging Whittier Fire, and only a mile from Rancho Alegre, the Boy Scout camp completely destroyed by the Whitter Fire.
