Hokkaido is a very volcanic region of Japan, reflected in its diverse landscape. At the tip of the Hakodate peninsula is Mt. Hakodate, visible from every part of the fishing town. On my first day there I took the ropeway to the top, and wandered down one of the many trails on the mountain. This was taken just before sunset, facing westwards. Seeing the scale of the mountain contrast with the town like this gives a real sense of perspective.
