I happened to be visiting the city park in Winterset, Iowa, which is home to one of the famed covered bridges of Madison County. It was an autumn day and I couldn’t resist capturing a somewhat different aspect to the bridge–that this one spans a dry ditch! The autumn colors adorn the bridge and the scene nicely, but I thought the placement of the bridge across a ditch-outside of its natural settings (formerly a small river)-spoke volumes about how the bridges had become a tourist attraction in the past 50 years or so.
