Ghosts. The lady with the flowers in her hair is a maiko and she is absolute top in Kyoto. She comes as close to perfection as possible. A maiko is an apprentice geiko. And since this is Kyoto, it's "geiko", not "geisha". Geisha operate in Tokyo. Geiko are becoming more and more rare, so it looked appropriate to photograph them as ghosts, fading away in their habitat.
