We need to Act For Nature now, so it can still exist 50 years from now.

Nature photography has always been so important to the Unsplash community. Given increasing climate concerns, capturing the natural world has never been more crucial.

That’s why our first Unsplash for Good initiative is an exciting partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

“For 50 years UNEP has coordinated a worldwide effort to confront the planet’s biggest environmental challenges. UNEP’s convening power and rigorous scientific research has provided a platform for countries to engage, act boldly and advance the global environmental agenda.” - UNEP

We are thrilled they’ve asked the Unsplash community to take part in this worldwide effort, by promoting the importance of taking care of our planet through imagery.

Our plan: In honor of UNEP’s 50th anniversary this year, we are launching a new Act For Nature Topic for you to submit images of the landscapes you still want to be around 50 years from now.

Featuring: Sonny Mauricio, veeterzy, Azzedine Rouichi, eberhard grossgasteiger, Andrew Svk, Daniel Seßler, Garrett Sears, Dynamic Wang, Daniel Leone

UNEP will be selecting the 15 images that best reflect the beauty of our planet. They are looking for diverse landscapes showcasing the wonders that span the globe. The selected images will be featured in an online gallery on the UNEP website.

The topic kicks off today, March 3rd, as part of the UN Environment Assembly and UNEP@50 event, and runs for one month.

Need inspiration? Head to the Topic to see some great examples.
