The present Kowloon Park opened in 1970 used to be Whitfield Barracks of the British colonial army. The Heritage Discovery Centre is housed in two old barrack buildings, S61 & S62 built in 1890s. Exhibitions display archaeological discoveries unearthed and antique Chinese architectural style found in H.K old buildings. It is also a Historical Building.It was restored in 2003 and converted into the present Heritage Discovery Centre in 2005. Architectural features are a mixture of East and West, like deep flattened arch, pitched tarred Chinese tiled roofs, raised semi-basement for local climate.
