The present Kowloon Park opened in 1970 used to be Whitfield Barracks of the British colonial army. The Heritage Discovery Centre is housed in two old barrack buildings, S61 & S62 built in 1890s. Exhibitions display archaeological discoveries, findings unearthed and antique Chinese architectural style in HK. It is a Historical Building. It was restored in 2003 and converted into the present Heritage Discovery Centre in 2005. Architectural features are a mixture of East and West, like deep flattened arch, pitched tarred Chinese tiled roofs, raised semi-basement for local climate.
